Talon Theatre Alumni Visit Mrs. Luskey-Barth on their Home Turf in the Big Apple

On Saturday, December 1, 2018, seven Talon Theatre alums came together with Artistic Director, Amy Luskey- Barth for an impromptu networking breakfast at Pershing Square Café across from Grand Central Station in New York City. The group included Joanna Pisano (SM ’14 NYU ’17) Hannah Baker (SM ’17 Pace University), Sabrina Boyd (SM’17 Fordham University), Gabriella Romero ( SM’17 NYU), Devon Hunt (SM ’18 NYU), Drew Schlingman (SM ’18 NYU), and Griffin Webb (SM’18 Wagner University.)

The group shared stories about their current projects, passions and interests. Joanna Pisano is currently designing costumes for A Midsummer Night’s Dream at the Main Street Theatre and Dance Alliance on Roosevelt Island and serves as Executive Producer of Prism House Theatre Company which was formed in her senior year at the Atlantic Theatre Company studio through NYU. She is also working regularly as a stage manager and production assistant off Broadway. Hannah Baker is preparing an original devised theatre piece that she and her classmates from Pace University will be touring to Barcelona, Spain. Hannah has a BA Acting International Performance major. She and Griffin Webb, who is a musical theatre major at Wagner, are interns for an off Broadway theatre company, Martian Entertainment and are getting real-world production experience. Drew Schlingman is composing music and learning about the recording industry as a music major at NYU. Devon Hunt is currently learning about directing for film and is creating sound scapes throughout New York City in his film program at NYU. Gabby Romero is deeply involved in political journalism as a writer with a focus on social justice. Sabrina Boyd is currently in a playwriting class at Fordham and is studying music theory. She is also involved with the Fordham radio station where she broadcasts the university basketball games.

Unable to join the breakfast were Michaela Galvin (SM ’16 NYU Playwright’s Horizon) and Veronica Thompson (SM ’13 NYU Musical Theatre ’17) due to an acting class and Trevor Lown (SM ’15 NYU Playwright’s Horizon) who was directing a show that was opening later that afternoon. Cameron Farmer (SM ’17 NYU Playwright’s Horizon – Directing) also was unable to attend. Andrea Martinez (SM ’15 NYU Musical Theatre ’18) missed the breakfast because she was home visiting family in California.

Over the past eight years, twelve Talon Theatre graduates have headed off to the “Big Apple” to pursue their dreams. Basking in the joy of being with her former students, Mrs. Barth encouraged the group to stay connected and to network with one another on future collaborations.
